9:00 am – 5:00 pm – Dr. John MacKay’s Institute of Extraction Technology: Tour Edition (Additional Fee Required for Certification)

The extraction market has changed in the last year while we were indoors. There are more extraction technologies available than there were in 2019. The processes involve more chemistry and physics. To provide a meaningful impact on your business in the shortest amount of time has resulted in three new courses on practical extraction.

To maximize your time, we have made some significant changes to the courses. The first is to limit the number of attendees at each session to 16. The second is the inclusion of more hands-on activities for extraction and analyses. The third is always tying these principles to have a return on investment in less than one week. Coming away with an understanding of the impact your extraction decisions have on your capital and operating costs is the goal. The measurable impact is the goal.

In this presentation, you’ll hear how a medical cannabis physician managed/treated his first COVID-19 patient with phytocannabinoids, plant medicine, vitamins and minerals and “conventional medicine”, what lessons were learned and what opportunities presented themselves post-COVID-19.
The Institute of Extraction Technology offers two certifications for this training location.

  • One Day without a test for competency: Certificate of Attendance for Merging Business and Science of Extraction
  • One Day with a test for competency: Certificate of Attendance and Passing Competency Test
Seating capacity is limited to 16 students. Actual extraction will be done onsite as well as cannabinoid testing. For more information on pricing and to reserve a spot, go to the Institute of Extraction Technology website.

10:15 am – 11:00 am – Keynote: COVID-19, Inflammation, and the Endocannabinoid System – How Are They Linked?

The leading cause of death from SARS-CoV2 is not from the virus itself, but from the immune system’s hyper inflammatory response to the virus. Cytokine Release Syndrome, otherwise known as “cytokine storm” leads to multi-organ failure that often begins in the lungs as “COVID pneumonia.” Treatment options for COVID-19 infections are currently limited. The endocannabinoid system’s activation leads to moderation of systemic inflammation and exploring how cannabinoids may play a role should be explored.

The analysis of the condition of the CBD market and the definition of strategic targets on perspective changes are greatly pressing questions. Find out how to create a niche and boost your CBD sales by gaining big buyers and enlarging your footprint on product shelves. Learn the tips and tricks of gaining momentum in this ever-changing but highly competitive market.

12:15 pm – 1:00 pm – FDA Compliance And Regulations in California

It seems today that there are hundreds of reasons for the authorities to be heavy-handed on the regulations they impose. It can be a long-standing struggle for companies trying to keep up with the rapidly changing regulations. Companies that have to interact with authorities could face hefty fines at best and, at worst, a complete shutdown. California lawmakers are navigating this in their style as a legal medical marijuana state with a widespread hemp industry. Understanding California’s rules on advertising, sales, packaging, and more is crucial to creating a compliant and successful brand. Understand why it pays to follow the rules with this panel by pulling back the curtain and understanding requirements, processes, and protocols to maintain good standing with enforcement.

1:15 pm – 2:00 pm – How Much is Right for You: The Science of CBD Dosing

One of the challenges in the emerging CBD market is the lack of robust clinical research that can be used to guide dosing guidelines. This is especially problematic in people with comorbidities or on other medications who would like to explore taking these products medicinally too. Even so, crowdsourcing the anecdotal data has allowed companies to review by developing a functional measure of how much CBD is needed for different conditions. This system, albeit lacking in strong foundations in clinical trials, in some ways is good enough. But, when it comes to a product we want to promote as medication, we have a responsibility to produce real data from which to work off of.

02:15 pm – 03:00 pm – Creating CBD Formulations and Blends

While scores of people may benefit from CBD isolates, many more have reported respite from their ailments after using full-spectrum products containing more natural molecules native to hemps, like other cannabinoids and terpenes. Still, many product manufacturers are looking to design formulations that incorporate some of these molecules without necessarily being considered “full-spectrum”. To continue, these products may contain other minor cannabinoids and terpenes, but the inclusion of these ingredients is purposeful. Such as, creating products designed as sleep aids or treating pain or anxiety. Additionally, blending these formulations with other dietary supplements namely ginseng or melatonin can present an exciting new product line. In which, combines traditional supplements with the surging interest in hemp-derived molecules. Thereby, presenting the best of both worlds. This panel will help professionals understand what products are currently in demand and illustrate how the rapidly evolving CBD industry is changing.

03:15 pm – 04:00 pm – Psychedelics & Cannabinoid Therapeutics: What Does the Future Hold?

Alongside the CBD boom, the functional mushroom market has experienced a profound amount of growth with certain estimates putting market growth upwards of $35 billion. Similarly situated to cannabis treatments as both controversial and poorly understood, there remains tremendous potential on the horizon for mycelia like, cordycepin and psilocybin. As consumers look to herbal treatments for an assortment of ailments, quality of life improves the future of hemp products/mushrooms, and regulations take shape…the question remains whether or not there is a future for CBD and mushrooms.

4:15 pm – 5:00 pm – How to Approach CBD Marketing For Entrepreneurs and Start-Ups: Q&A

So you started a cannabidiol business and are looking to scale up but not sure how? The key to a successful company is good marketing–and CBD is no exception. But, even for seasoned pros, the transition to CBD may be a bit bumpy. The blossoming industry is going through some growing pains as regulators work to come up with guidelines. To avoid chaos, consider developing marketing messages that are based on the science of the product and reflect the needs of the consumer/patient audience. A strategic integrated approach targeted to key stakeholders with messages that carefully balance product/service benefits is a good start to kick off long-lasting relationships with patients and consumers.

9:15 am – 10:00 am – Making the Most Out of the Medicine: Methods for Separating Minor Cannabinoids

CBD might be the well-known cannabinoid regularly extracted from hemp plants, but it is not the only one. Minor cannabinoids, such as CBG and CBC have medicinal properties of their own. While these cannabinoids are typically in much lower concentrations within the plant, they can still be isolated and purified using methods like flash or supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). The isolation of these cannabinoids, such that adequate purity is achieved, is paramount for better understanding what benefits these cannabinoids impart. In addition, techniques like SFC can help clean up mother liquors to ensure that all of the gold is extracted from the garbage. In this panel, we examine why these minor cannabinoids present such an exciting new development for the industry, how to extract and purify them, and what the future may look like as a result.

10:15 am – 11:00 am – Keynote: CBD and Related Cannabinoids in Neuropsychiatry

Created to inform healthcare professionals about both the basics of what CBD is and the medical evidence for its use, this presentation will take the audience from 0-60 in less than 1 hour. The goal is to leave a viewer with zero initial knowledge about CBD or cannabinoids, with an understanding of CBD mechanisms of action, production, and uses that is greater than 99% of the population at large. Topics will include discussion of the endocannabinoid system, mechanisms of action, the entourage effect, hemp vs marijuana, mental health studies using CBD, legal issues and more.

11:15 am – 12:00 pm – Cannabinoid Medicine: What’s New

The past year’s breakthroughs in CBD research include medication interactions, epilepsy, neuroscience, dermatological applications, mental health disorders, addiction/relapse, and biochemistry. Science has transformed the world of cannabinoids. CBD was once a relatively obscure, banned substance, but scientific research landed this compound in the hands of physicians, engineers, lawmakers, and consumers. Research fuels innovation. Designers rely on emerging scientific evidence to develop cannabinoid products that meet the needs of an evolving market. Where is the science of CBD today? This council of established scientists will push companies to the cutting edge of chemical/medical advancement in the field. Critics often point out that CBD claims are ahead of science. However, knowledge is power.

01:15 pm – 02:00 pm – Delta 8, CBC, CBN, CBG & More Minors

The others: your eyes don’t deceive you. This is a CBD Expo, but there are many more therapeutic molecules in hemp, including so-called minor cannabinoids like CBC, CBN, and CBG as well as moieties that are still to be fully appreciated. Our experts assembled on this panel are hoping to familiarize consumers with the diversity of plant chemicals that cannabis has to offer. From how they are extracted, isolated, and synthesized to how they can be utilized in product formulation, this panel will aim to introduce these novel compounds and guide listeners to where they can learn and experience more. Understanding developments surrounding products, science, and culture as well as cannabis and hemp as CBD becomes increasingly mainstream is important to understanding how to unlock the full potential of the plant and understand how the industry is developing into the new decade.

02:15 pm – 03:00 pm – Using Terpenes & Flavonoids to Enhance Your CBD Product

For some time, terpenes were considered waste molecules leftover after extracting CBD. However, those times were short-lived, and now there is an abundant wealth of scientific literature demonstrating the medicinal merit of terpenes like beta-caryophyllene, linalool, bisabolol, nerolidol, and more. For example, nerolidol and linalool help treat anxiety, whereas beta-caryophyllene is useful in relieving pain. While some patients may benefit from more one-dimensional CBD products like isolate, the terpenes native to the plant can help augment the extracted cannabinoid(s) benefits. This panel will discuss the importance of terpenes and how adding these precious tiny molecules back into CBD oils can differentiate a product from a defined medical purpose.
